Transcripts of interviews with Victor and Eileen Peitz who grew up, lived, and farmed in the West Point/Houghton area of Iowa. Eileen Peitz is a sister to Rita Harmeyer and Betty Denning. The author Julianne is Eileen's daughter and Rita and Betty's niece. Born in the 1920s, Victor and Eileen Peitz grew up in rural Iowa during the heart of the Great Depression. Their story paints a vivid picture of a rustic life of yesteryear, contrasting sharply with modern urban life. Interviewed while in their 70s, conversations explored such topics as medical treatments, education, community, poverty, polio, social activities, work, World War II, dating, food, and gender roles. Their beautiful story was captured, and is now shared, by their daughter Julianne.
