Summary:
In 1933, the 40 year-old scholar Ernst Pfeiffer visits the writer, feminist and psychoanalyst Lou Andreas-Salomé, who is in her seventies. Both are attracted to each other, but Lou has sworn off men. Instead, the two work together on her memoirs and the film flashes back to her earlier life. She was interested in philosophy at a young age, and was friends with Paul Rée, Friedrich Nietzsche, Rainer Maria Rilke and Sigmund Freud.
