Summary:
Chokher bali, a passion play is set between 1902-1905 tells the story of beautiful and educated women Binodini struggling to free herself from the oppression of widowhood. Widowed within a year of marriage. She moves into Mahendra's house as a companion to his mother. There she meets Mahendra's wife, Ashalata and Behari, his friend. Earlier Mahendra and Behari were both offered her hand in marriage and had refused, Binodini sees the husband, the home and married bliss that could have been her's and seduced. Asha and Binodini become inseperable so much that they affectionately call each other "Chokher bali literally means "Sand in the eye". Among these four develops a forbidden attraction, a mesmerizing web of destiny and desire.
