Summary:
"Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been shown to be one characteristic of the organization that is attractive to applicants for employment. Prior research has not studied the mechanism for understanding this CSR-attraction relationship. This study looks at core self-evaluation (CSE) of the applicants (an indicator of a person's overall self-worth) as a moderator to the CSR-attraction relationship, based on the approach/avoidance framework. The research in approach-avoidance tells us that the indicators of CSE (locus of control, self-esteem and generalized self-efficacy, and emotional stability) reflect the influence of the approach temperament, indicating that applicants with high CSE will be more likely to approach a positive situation (i.e. high CSR) for employment. Results demonstrate that while applicants from multiple fields of study are attracted to socially responsible organizations, this relationship is not moderated by core self-evaluation. Limitations of the research, practical implications, and recommendations for future research are discussed."-- Abstract.
