"The 1997 summer at The University of Iowa was a time when Elderhostel writers who are working in many different genres gathered to hone their writing skills. There were people working on novels, short fiction, essays, poetry, and memoirs. There were writers who had returned to the program many times over the twenty-one years the program has been held at The University of Iowa and there were new friends acquired during these short periods of time."
