First printing, with dedicatory letter to Cosimo Medici by Agnolo Guicciardini, the author's nephew, dated 3 Sept. 1561; contains only 16 books. Signatures: A⁴ ²A⁶ B-LL⁶ MM² NN-HHH⁶ III⁴ KKK⁶; 3K5v and 3K6r blank. Ducal arms of the Medici on title and 3K6v, three fleurs-de-lys (for Florence?, but not flowered) on the bezant in chief; medallion portrait of the author on page [8]; initials. The first edition, published by Agnolo Guicciardini, containing sixteen books only. The last four were published by the same editor in 1564.
