Guidelines ... developed at the request of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Committee on Fisheries (COFI) at its twenty-seventh session (March 2007) in order to assist States and regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements (RFMO/As) in sustainably managing deep-sea fisheries and in implementing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 61/105"--P. iii. Several Workshops and Consultations were involved in the drafting of the guidelines.
