Summary:
A century ago in a remote Japanese mountain village, the elderly upon reaching the age of seventy were customarily abandoned on a mountain top to meet the gods of Narayama. Orin, a matriarch whose time approaches, must make plans to assure the survival of her family as stolen crops and newborn additions threaten their very existence.
