Summary:

After a long absence, young Fred Vance returns to the home place, in Lodgepole, Wyoming. His stepfather, Milt Hurd, who is in financial difficulties, wants him to sign off on a lease to the ranch. To Fred, this seems like a capitulation to the neighboring range hog, U.S. Senator Jim Kirby, who was an enemy of Freds father. On instinct, Fred refuses. With some doubts, he allows another lease to go through for a man who was once his friend, Tom Demmler. Adding romance, Dawson sees to it that Kirby has a beautiful daughter, and Demmler a beautiful sister, but both are fully portrayed and surprising. They see through the schemes of dishonest men and appreciate Freds honest, gentle nature. When Milt Hurd is murdered, Senator Kirby stacks the deck so that Fred is jailed. He breaks out to prove his innocence, and though the odds are long, two women are on his side, along with some friends he didnt know he had.
