Summary:
West African guitarist Ali Farka Touré began receiving international attention in the late 1980s, when his recordings (which mix the flavors of American rural blues with the sounds and rhythms of his native Mali) were released in the United States to a small but enthusiastic audience. Since then, Touré has becomes one of the biggest success stories in African music, recording with Western artists such as Ry Cooder while still maintaining his own unique musical personality. This documentary examines Touré the performer at home in Mali, performing but also busy with his work as a farmer and encouraging other musicians in their craft.
