After being one of the first women to graduate from Berlin Art Academy in 1927, Laserstein began making a name for herself in Weimar era Berlin's thriving art scene. She was a remarkable portraitist, capturing everyday citizens of Berlin, from motorcyclists to girls playing tennis, to women applying makeup. The volume features fifty works by Laserstein that show her artistic development during the 1920s and 1930s. She was known for spurning the usual depiction of women and instead portrayed the 'New Woman' who embraced fashion and personal freedom. Unfortunately, her career came to an abrupt halt in 1937 when she was forced to flee Nazi Germany for Sweden. She continued to paint in exile, but her work never regained the same intensity or sensitivity as her Berlin portraits and she fell out of the public eye. Laserstein's works from this key period in her career have recently been rediscovered and this volume aims to bring them back into the spotlight.00Exhibition: StaÌdel Museum, Frankfurt (19.9.2018 - 17.3.2019) / Berlinische Galerie, Museum fuÌr Moderne Kunst, Berlin, Germany (5.4. - 12.8.2019). 600 10 $a Laserstein, Lotte, $d 1898-1993 $v Exhibitions. 600 10 $a Laserstein, Lotte, $d 1898-1993 $x Criticism and interpretation. 600 17 $a Laserstein, Lotte, $d 1898-1993. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00326826 600 14 $a Laserstein, Lotte. 650 0 $a Painting, German $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008108828 650 0 $a Portrait painting $z Germany $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 7 $a Painting, German. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01050851 650 7 $a Portrait painting. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01072167 651 7 $a Germany. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01210272 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a Criticism, interpretation, etc. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1424028 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1424028 700 1 $a Eiling, Alexander B., $e writer of added commentary. $e writer of added commentary. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2009155518 700 1 $a Schroll, Elena, $e writer of added commentary. $e writer of added commentary. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2019047066 710 2 $a StaÌdtische Galerie im StaÌdelschen Kunstinstitut Frankfurt am Main, $e host institution. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n83038441 710 2 $a Berlinische Galerie, $e host institution. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80128209 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191210023136.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=C30E09BA0C2C11EAA2E5F95597128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
