Many studies, particularly literary studies, have challenged Huizinga's perceptions of individual works or genres. Still, the vision of the Late French and Burgundian Middle Ages as a sad transitional phase between the High Middle Ages and the Renaissance persists. Yet, a series of exceptionally significant cultural developments mark the period. The Waxing of the Middle Ages sets out to provide a rich, complex, and diverse study of these developments and to reassert that late medieval France is crucial in its own right. The collection argues for an approach that views the late medieval period not as an afterthought, or a blind spot, but as a period that is key in understanding the fluidity of time, traditions, culture, and history. Each essay explores some "cultural form," to borrow Huizinga's expression, to expose the false divide that has dominated modern scholarship"-- $c Provided by publisher. 651 0 $a France $x History $y 15th century. 651 0 $a France $x Social life and customs $y 15th century. 651 0 $a France $x Civilization $y 1328-1600. 651 0 $a France $x Historiography. $y 15th century $x Historiography. 600 10 $a Huizinga, Johan, $d 1872-1945 $x Influence. 600 17 $a Huizinga, Johan, $d 1872-1945. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00011606 650 7 $a Civilization. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00862898 650 7 $a Historiography. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00958221 650 7 $a Influence (Literary, artistic, etc.) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00972484 650 7 $a Manners and customs. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01007815 651 7 $a France. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204289 648 7 $a 1328-1600 $2 fast 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 700 1 $a Morand-Metivier, Charles-Louis, $e author. $e author. 700 1 $a Adams, Tracy, $d 1959- $e author. $e author. 830 0 $a Early modern exchange. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117030902.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=72432E3CDDAE11EDB031D5162DECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
