Fifteen-year-old Nina, trying to pull her mother out of depression and assuage her own guilt over the drowning death of her little brother four years earlier, encourages her artist mom to take up painting again and even agrees to pose nude, but she is not comfortable with having her changing body displayed in public and what she thought would bring healing to her family sends them all into a downward spiral.
