Summary:
"In 2014, Elizabeth Farfán-Santos started researching health care access for undocumented people-a group specifically excluded from the Affordable Care Act. In time, she narrowed her focus to undocumented mothers and, eventually, to one particular woman she calls Claudia. Claudia's story is both typical and specific, and in this book, Farfán-Santos reveals it as she received it-in conversations that took place in Claudia's living room. Farfán-Santos takes care to mention the difficult parts of their conversations, the times they cried together, keeping some sentences in Spanish, and what it all brought to mind in her own family history as the child of (documented) immigrants. The result is an incredibly intimate book virtually devoid of theory that aims for a broad readership"-- Provided by publisher.
