The crew of the third manned mission to Mars is stranded on the Red Planet when it is discovered that the fuel tanks for the return trip to Earth are corroded and empty, and with supplies and life support systems running low, the crew embarks on a dangerous trek across the surface of Mars to find an abandoned ship from an earlier mission that offers a slim hope of getting home.
