Summary:
Growing up in rural, upper-class seclusion on her family’s Oxfordshire estate, 17-year-old Linda Radlet and her cousin Fanny can’t wait to break free and start living. For passionate Linda, that means diving into fun and romance, while practical Fanny chooses a more cautious trajectory. Their friendship is put to the test as Fanny settles for a steady life and Linda decides to follow her heart to increasingly wild and outrageous places. As social and political divisions split the nation leading up to World War II, their diverging choices raise personal questions that remain intensely relevant today--questions about freedom, about love and sex, and the mystery of the human heart.
