Ruby, the only girl and youngest child in the Bronstein family, grows up in awe of her brothers and her stern but gentle father, a Holocaust survivor, but her world begins to fall apart at the age of ten when her oldest brother has a schizophrenic breakdown, and the tragedies continue to mount over the years, even as she experiences the ordinary milestones of adolescence and young adulthood.
