On a Louisiana plantation, Davia, a thirteen-year-old Wisconsin girl, encounters the ghost of a young nineteenth-century Creole relative and comes to terms with her fears about her mother's cancer while helping to provide hospice care for her elderly, terminally ill great-aunt.
