An eighth-grader named Hazel is forced to attend a new school during her last year of middle school without her best friend. She's also worried about one of her mothers who's pregnant and has previously miscarried twice. Hazel develops tentative friendships at her new school and works through her feelings of missing her old life, growing up, and preparing to be a big sister.
