Summary:
O Pioneers! (1913) is an classic tale of the Nebraska frontier. The Song of the Lark (1915) is a story of the struggles of a young artist. One of Ours (1922) is a portrait of a young man born after the American frontier has vanished, whose quintessentially American restlessness seeks redemption on a World War I battlefield. My Antonia (1918) is a memoir of a successful New York City lawyer, who tells an acquaintance the story of his Nebraska childhood in the form of a recollection of their mutual friend, Antonia Shimerda.
This volume contains four great works by the author who created the first autonomous and successful women's heroes in American literature. She is one of America's most treasured writers. Her childhood in the woodlands of Virginia and on the prairies of Nebraska formed the inspiration for many of her novels, and her devotion to education provided the basis for her lifetime of achievement. Many critics have stated that she might have won a Nobel Prize had she not been a woman in a time of gender inequality. -- Fom back cover.
