Owen Foster's privileged life is shattered when his mother shows up at his elite boarding school to tell him that his father used the family business, the largest employer in their small Louisiana town, to embezzle millions of dollars and that he's now vanished without a trace. Owen returns to Lake Cane to finish his senior year and has to contend with the town hating him for what his father did, including increasingly frightening threats. His only refuge is an isolated pecan orchard, owned by a mysterious man named Gus. As Owen uncovers the secrets in Gus's past, he learns more about his own family.
