"Examines the growing prominence within Chinese-language literature of ecological perspectives from China's border cultures. Drawing on eco-literature by Mongolian, Tibetan, Taiwanese Indigenous, Yi, Kazakh, Uyghur, and Han writers, Visser argues that while Beijing promotes China's harmonious ecological civilization, it also strategically appropriates indigenous perspectives in eco-literature to strengthen control over its population.
