Proceedings of a conference held in Rome, Italy, November 26-28, 2018, which took as a starting point both the 1985 conference which produced the proceedings volume L’Urbs, espace urbain et histoire (1987), and the contributions to the field of urban archaeology by Ferdinando Castagnoli, and focuses on the changes in research methodology which have taken place since the conference and the passing of Castagnoli, and on new insights, and developments in the field which have occurred in this time frame.
