Caption title. "This piece [Gavotte] occurs anonymously within a group of other pieces ascribed to Purcell in Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum MS 52.B.7. In Dulwich College, MS 4, the same Gavott, with several extended (and rather trite) variations is ascribed to William Babell. However this does not necessarily disprove the ascription of the work to Purcell. As may be seen in British MS Add. 39569, Babell so treated several works by Purcell and others."--Franklin B. Zimmerman, Henry Purcell, p. 423. "Grade 2 1/2"--Cover.
