"We imagined the future and doing something that lived up to our name, Visionaire. With this issue, we moved up to 1,500 copies and started experimenting with more expensive materials, like Plexiglas, which had to be bent by hand to make the hard sleeves that held the contents. A die-cut circle on the cover enabled different images to "peek" through, so we delivered issues with different first pages to different stores: a reduced version of Stephane Sednaoui's collaged faces, a Mats Gustafson spiral, a face photographed by Steven Meisel, and a fashion shot by Satoshi Saikusa. All took their turn as part of our cover on bookshelves. The Future was also the first time we used metallic foil stamping on the cover, which is something we've done again and again since then"--Publisher's description.
