Summary:
Mariko is not happy with her husband who is always too busy to spend time with her. They made plans for a trip together, but he could not come, so Mariko went to visit her old house maid in a small fishing village. Once there she met a young man named Shigeo and they were strongly attracted to each other. Shigeo wanted to get married, but Mariko wanted freedom from her husband and was unsure about another marriage. Their love affair became a scandal in the village and eventually Mariko's husband appears only to be confronted by her request for a divorce. She leaves Shigeo and moves on to enjoy her new life.
