Summary:
In this episode of Dance On, Billie Mahoney interviews modern dance choreographer and teacher Bella Lewitzky. Bella Lewitzky describes the characteristics and appeal of modern dance, including the way in which movement can extend expression and communication in drama and music. Discussing her activities in her home base of Los Angeles, she talks about her modern dance company and her work as the founding dean of the dance program at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts). She recalls her mentor Lester Horton and his unique position in the world of modern dance. The interview concludes with a summary of her activities in the Midwest, including a residency at the University of Kansas and the premiere of her work Meta 4.
