Summary:
"This book has been conceived as the publication related to the CSAV-Artists Research Laboratory held by Walid Raad at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como in 2009" --Colophon (on separate leaf).
"Walid Raad's Walkthrough is the fourth installment in the collaborative series produced by the Black Dog Publishing and the Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como. The book is also produced on the occasion of Raad's exhibitions at Carré d'Art - Musée d'art contemporain in Nîmes; Madre - Museo d'arte contemporanea Donnaregina in Naples; and the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Amherst. Since 2007, Raad's work has been concerned with the history of Islamic, modern and contemporary Arab art, and exploring the recent emergence of large new infrastructures for the visual arts in and around the Middle East. In Walkthrough, Rad presents several 'chapters' from this ongoing art project. He concentrates in particular on the history of the visual arts in Lebanon; the emergence of new museums in Abu Dhabi and elsewhere in the Gulf; technological innovations in the areas of statistics, data mining, and finance as well as their manifestations in art databases and art funds; the development of the high-tech sector in Israel in the past two decades; and the books of Jalal Toufic, especially his concept of "the withdrawal of tradition past a surpassing disaster"."--Back cover of slipcase.
