Valli, an orphan who lives on the streets in India, is afraid of the "monsters" that live on the other side of the train tracks--the people with leprosy who are missing body parts. Valli meets a doctor who treats these patients and learns that Valli's own feet have leprosy. Valli struggles with accepting help from the doctor and learning to see the leprosy patients for who they really are.
