Summary:
The world of the indigenous women in the Jesuit missions of the Chaco, until the publication of this book, had remained virtually unexplored. This book by Beatriz Vitar is the first synthesis on the subject and highlights the role of these women in community sustenance, diplomacy, war and ritual activity, symbol of the survival of native traditions. In turn, the book takes us to the origin of oppressive practices and submission, keys to understanding the situations of marginality and violence that women of the original communities of the Chaco still suffer and survive.
