Along with hundreds of other land boomers, David Salkeld and partner Buck Custer sold their ranch and prepared to move their cattle herd to Gallatin Basin, which has just been opened to new settlement. Dave and some Flying Diamond cowpunchers are going to stake out their claims before Buck and his men move in with the herd. But most of the boomers are farmers, and the Converse cattle outfit turns them against cattlemen even before the land rush starts.
