Summary:

For Yamada Shōsuke, a newly drafted soldier who lost his parents when he was a child, the military where he can eat three times a day and draw a salary is like a paradise. When he sees the real emperor during maneuvers, he becomes very fond of the emperor. When the rumor that the war will end soon spreads, Shōsuke, hoping to stay in the military, writes a letter to the emperor.
