Summary:
Violetta Valéry, a Parisian courtesan, falls deeply in love with a young man of promise, Alfredo Germont. When Alfredo's father begs her not to ruin the prospect of an advantageous marriage for his daughter through her involvement with Alfredo, she acquiesces and leaves her lover. However, when poverty and terminal illness overwhelm her, Violetta discovers that Alfredo has not lost his love for her.
