What Toshisada Nishida started in 1965 with the Mahale Mountain Chimpanzee Project is neatly brought together in this beautiful and thorough volume covering the site's history and ecology, the behaviour and biology of the resident chimpanzees, and the relevance of this vast body of research to understanding our closest relatives. Long-term ecological research studies are rare and invaluable resources, particularly when they are as thoroughly documented as the Mahale Mountain Chimpanzee Project in Tanzania.
