Summary:
Adam, Jamie and associates investigate the explosive dangers of a malfunctioning water heater, if friction can cause the jeans of a person being dragged by a horse to catch on fire. They also test if tight jeans become wet while being worn, the resulting shrinkage can cause a restriction of blood flow in the legs and the ppossible death of the wearer. They test the saying "easy as shooting fish in a barrel" and various methods of counteracting the oral effects of hot peppers. They investigate the pirate "myths" of using an inverted boat as a method of walking underwater, the possibility of escape after being buried up to the neck in sand, and the effectiveness of using as projectiles chains, cutlery and other objects in lieu of cannonballs. They build and test a steam-powered machine gun, the "Baltimore gun," originally designed during the Civil War and test methods of fooling lie detectors, both polygraph machines and functional MRI brain scans. They use a flight simulator to test the ability of an untrained "pilot" to land a plane with and without assistance from ground control and test three Hollywood parachuting scenarios, the duration of freefall from a 4000-foot jump, if a second diver can catch up with one who jumped 15 seconds earlier, and the ability of divers to talk to one another during freefall.
