Summary:
The families of Hannah Rosenthal and her best friend board the SS St Louis on which safe passage was promised for Jews fleeing Germany to asylum in Cuba at the brink of World War II. After ominous rumors from Cuba undermine their sense of security, the journey that began like a luxurious holiday seems likely to become their doom. Seven decades later, Anna Rosen receives a package from her great-aunt Hannah in Cuba, sending her on a quest that helps her understand her place in the world.
