Sometime around 8:00 a.m. a band of 12 Confederate soldiers dressed in stolen Union uniforms, rode into Davis County from Missouri and began to wreak a day-long streak of terror that began as intimidation and robbery and ultimately ended with the murders of three prominent citizens of the community.
