The images were taken between 1957, the year that desegregation in public schools began, and 1968, when the National Guard was called in to surround the state capitol in the wake of the civil rights leader's assassination in Memphis. Photographs from the archives of both daily newspapers will be included: the Tennessean, which was the more liberal publication, and the Nashville Banner, a conservative paper whose leadership seemed less interested in covering events related to racial issues. Some of the photographs in the exhibition were selected to be published in the papers, but many were not, the disclosure of which reveals insight into the editorial process."--Provided by publisher. 610 24 $a Frist Center for the Visual Arts (Nashville, Tenn.) $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a African Americans $z Nashville $z Nashville $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Civil rights movements $x Press coverage $z Nashville $z Nashville $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Civil rights movements $z Nashville $z Nashville $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Civil rights movements $z Nashville $z Nashville $x History $y 20th century $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a African Americans $x History $z Nashville $z Nashville $x History $y 20th century $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a Civil rights workers $z Nashville $z Nashville $v Pictorial works. 650 0 $a Segregation and the press $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Photojournalism $z Nashville $z Nashville $v Exhibitions. 651 0 $a Nashville (Tenn.) $x History $x History $y 20th century $v Exhibitions. 650 7 $a African Americans. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00799558 650 7 $a African Americans $x Civil rights. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00799575 650 7 $a Civil rights movements. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00862708 650 7 $a Civil rights workers. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00862721 650 7 $a Photojournalism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01062022 650 7 $a Race relations. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01086509 650 7 $a Segregation and the press. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01111220 651 7 $a Tennessee $z Nashville. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204195 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01424028 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 $a Pictorial works. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423874 700 1 $a Delmez, Kathryn E., $e editor. 700 1 $a Edwards, Susan H., $e contributor. 700 1 $a Wynn, Linda T., $e contributor. 700 1 $a Lewis, John, $d 1940 February 21- $e writier of introduction. 730 0 $a Tennessean. 730 0 $a Nashville banner. 941 $a 2 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20240517011035.0 952 $l GUPF501 $d 20190627010624.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=229A1E682E9411E9B5CB1E4197128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
