His interest, unique at the time, lay as much in their value as art as in their importance for the study of mental illness ... The works; all created between 1890 and 1920, sprang from the patients' urgent need to impose order on chaos, to communicate, from a 'drive towards expression' as Prinzhorn put it. Particular themes and motifs recur in the works: mechanical inventions; religious images; sexual fantasies; obsessive patterning on paper and in embroidery; fantastic beasts; intricate internal and external worlds. By the 1930s, when the Nazis declared such work 'degenerate', the Collection itself had fallen in to disrepair. Only in recent years has it been retrieved and restored. The images provide a fascinating insight in to the nature of artistic expression and the links between creativity, rationality, and illness - compelling subjects which remain intensely relevant to this day."--Jacket. 541 $a UNI: Donated by Roy and Mary Behrens $5 IaCfT 610 20 $a Prinzhorn-Sammlung der Psychiatrischen UniversitaÌtsklinik Heidelberg $v Exhibitions. 600 10 $a Prinzhorn, Hans, $d 1886-1933 $x Art collections $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Art and mental illness $z Europe $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Artists with mental disabilities $z Europe $v Exhibitions. 650 0 $a Outsider art $v Exhibitions. 610 24 $a UniversitaÌt Heidelberg. $b Psychiatrische Klinik. 650 6 $a Art et maladies mentales $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $z Europe $0 (CaQQLa)201-0421387 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 650 6 $a Artistes ayant une deÌficience intellectuelle $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 $z Europe $0 (CaQQLa)201-0421387 $v Expositions. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0378191 600 17 $a Prinzhorn, Hans, $d 1886-1933. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00076459 610 27 $a Prinzhorn-Sammlung der Psychiatrischen UniversitaÌtsklinik Heidelberg. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00613454 650 7 $a Art and mental illness. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00815407 650 7 $a Art $x Private collections. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00815314 650 7 $a Artists with mental disabilities. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00817657 650 7 $a Outsider art. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01049257 651 7 $a Europe. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01245064 650 17 $a Beeldende kunsten. $2 gtt 650 17 $a Art brut. $2 gtt 650 17 $a Primitivisme. $2 gtt 650 17 $a Outsider Art. $2 gtt 600 17 $a Prinzhorn, Hans, $d (1886-1933) $x Catalogues d'exposition. $x Catalogues d'exposition. $2 ram 610 27 $a Prinzhorn-Sammlung der Psychiatrischen UniversitaÌtsklinik Heidelberg $x Catalogues d'exposition. $2 ram 650 7 $a Art et maladies mentales $z Europe $x Catalogues d'exposition. $2 ram 650 7 $a Artistes handicapés mentaux $z Europe $x Catalogues d'exposition. $2 ram 650 7 $a Art brut $x Catalogues d'exposition. $2 ram 655 7 $a exhibition catalogs. $2 aat $0 (CStmoGRI)aatgf300026096 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01424028 655 7 $a Exhibition catalogs. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Catalogues d'exposition. $2 rvmgf $0 (CaQQLa)RVMGF-000001063 700 1 $a JaÌdi, Inge, $e author. 700 1 $a Douglas, Caroline, $e author. 710 2 $a Prinzhorn-Sammlung der Psychiatrischen UniversitaÌtsklinik Heidelberg, $e contributor. 710 2 $a Hayward Gallery, $e host institution. 710 2 $a UniversitaÌt Heidelberg. $b Psychiatrische Klinik, $e contributor. 856 42 $3 Contributor biographical information $u http://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/bios/ucal052/99170955.html 856 42 $3 Publisher description $u http://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/description/ucal042/99170955.html 856 4 $u https://images.library.uni.edu/Donated_BehrensRoyAndMary_20191028.jpg $z View Roy Behrens giftplate $x IaCfT 941 $a 1 952 $l UNUX074 $d 20230901010313.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=E34C1906488C11EE9762855E3EECA4DB 994 $a C0 $b NIUInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
