Located just south of the Arctic Circle, Dawson City was settled in 1896 and became the center of the Canadian Gold Rush that brough 100,000 prospectors to the area. It was also the final stop for a distribution chain that sent prints and newsreels to the Yukon. The films were seldom, if ever, returned. The now-famous Dawson City Collection was uncovered in 1978 when a bulldozer working its way through a parking lot dug up a horde of film cans. Morrison draws on these permafrost-protected, rare silent films and newsreels, pairing them with archival footage, interviews, historical photographs, and an enigmatic score by Sigur Ros collaborator and composer Alex Somers. Dawson City : Frozen Time depicts the unique history of this Canadian Gold Rush town by chronicling the life cycle of a singular film collection through its exile, burial, rediscovery, and salvation"--Container. 650 0 $a Motion pictures $z Dawson $z Dawson $x History. 650 0 $a Motion picture film collections $z Dawson. $z Dawson. 651 0 $a Dawson (Yukon) $x History. 650 0 $a Documentary films. 650 0 $a Film excerpts. 650 0 $a Silent films. 650 0 $a Video recordings for the hearing impaired. 700 1 $a Morrison, Bill, $d 1965 November 17- $e editor of moving image work. $e film producer, $e film director, $e editor of moving image work. 700 1 $a Jones-Gates, Kathy, $e on-screen presenter. 700 1 $a Gates, Michael, $e on-screen presenter. 700 1 $a Kula, Sam, $e on-screen presenter. 710 2 $a Kino Lorber, Inc. 941 $a 10 945 $a dvv 952 $l GOPG641 $d 20240710042057.0 952 $l YEPF572 $d 20200204090903.0 952 $l TYPH572 $d 20200110072753.0 952 $l BAPH771 $d 20190730010628.0 952 $l UNUX074 $d 20181010012801.0 952 $l BOPG851 $d 20181006111704.0 952 $l ETPD745 $d 20180907015001.0 952 $l CBPF522 $d 20180801010552.0 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180710084746.0 952 $l CAPH522 $d 20171208010303.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=9AFB29ECD72E11E7950E963597128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
