While African states and societies benefited immensely from these engagements, it was Fidel Castro's military assistance towards the decolonization of and the pushback of Apartheid South Africa that received the loudest attention and ovation in the developing world. Fidel Castro, this book argues, was never motivated by economic, selfish, or geopolitical considerations; but rather, by the altruism and the certainty of his worldview and by the historical connection between the peoples of Cuba and Africa. The principle of international solidary, socialism, and the emancipation of Africa was a much-desired aspiration and attainment. Beginning covertly in Algeria in 1961 and the Congo and Guinea-Bissau in 1964; and more conspicuously in Angola in 1975, Fidel Castro and his socialist government was at the forefront supporting liberation movements in their struggle against colonialism. Defining Castro's engagement with Africa was his support for the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) against the United States-backed Apartheid South Africa, which supported the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA)"--Publisher's description 600 10 $a Castro, Fidel, $d 1926-2016. 600 17 $a Castro, Fidel, $d 1926-2016 $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00052772 650 0 $a National liberation movements $z Africa $x History $y 20th century. 651 0 $a Cuba $x Foreign relations $z Africa. 651 0 $a Africa $x Foreign relations $z Cuba. 650 6 $a Mouvements de liberation nationale $z Afrique $x Histoire $y 20e siecle. 651 6 $a Cuba $x Relations exterieures $z Afrique. 651 6 $a Afrique $x Relations exterieures $z Cuba. 650 7 $a Diplomatic relations $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01907412 650 7 $a National liberation movements $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01033606 651 7 $a Africa $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01239509 651 7 $a Cuba $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01205805 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a History $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 700 1 $a Abidde, Sabella Ogbobode, $d 1962- $e editor. 700 1 $a Manyeruke, Charity, $e editor. 776 08 $i Ebook version : $z 9781793611468 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117031854.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=42DA96B0072811ED93C2E7E557ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
