Trump, attending to both his general manner of speaking as well as to his preferred modality. Trump's manner, the authors argue, reflects an aesthetics of white rage, and it is rooted in authoritarianism, narcissism, and demagoguery. His preferred modality of speaking, namely through Twitter, effectively channels and transmits the affective dimensions of white rage by taking advantage of the platform's defining characteristics, which include simplicity, impulsivity, and incivility. There is, then, a structural homology between Trump's general communication practices and the specific platform (Twitter) he uses to communicate with his base. This commonality between communication practices and communication platform (manner and modality) struck a powerful emotive chord with his followers, who feel aggrieved at the decentering of white masculinity. In addition to charting the defining characteristics of Trump's discourse, The Twitter Presidency exposes how Trump's rhetorical style threatens democratic norms, principles, and institutions. 600 10 $a Trump, Donald, $d 1946- $x Language. 630 00 $a Twitter. 600 17 $a Trump, Donald, $d 1946- $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00174117 650 0 $a Communication in politics $z United States. 650 0 $a Communication in politics $z United States $x History $y 21st century. 650 0 $a Rhetoric $x History $z United States $x History $y 21st century. 650 0 $a Political culture $z United States. 650 0 $a Social media $x Political aspects $z United States. 650 0 $a Microblogs $x Political aspects $z United States. 700 1 $a Dickinson, Greg, $d 1964- $e author. 710 2 $a National Communication Association (U.S.) 776 08 $i ebook version : $z 9780429620362 830 0 $a NCA Focus on communication studies. 941 $a 1 952 $l USUX851 $d 20220802021914.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=02C088489C8F11E981649E3E97128E48 994 $a C0 $b IWAInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
