Anna Pavlova (1881-1931) was the most famous classical ballerina of her era. Born in St. Petersburg, she was trained at the school of the Imperial Ballet, made her debut as soloist in 1899, and became prima ballerina of the company in 1906. Pavlova toured Europe in 1907, appeared briefly with the Ballets Russes of the Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev, and in 1910 made her American debut with the Russian dancer Mikhail Mordkin at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. She founded her own company in 1911, and until 1925, when she retired, she danced extensively in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia, often bringing ballet for the first time to remote areas. Conservative in her aesthetics, Pavlova was an outstanding representative of classical Russian ballet, admired for the poetic quality of her movement. She was also interested in ethnic dances and in the dance techniques of India and Japan. Her most famous classical roles were in 'Giselle', 'Swan Lake', 'Les Sylphides', 'Don Quixote', 'Coppelia', and in the solo dance 'The Dying Swan', created for her in 1905 by the great Russian choreographer Michel Fokine. 600 10 $a Pavlova, Anna, $d 1881-1931 $v Drama. 650 0 $a Ballet dancers $z Russia (Federation) $y 19th century $v Drama. 650 0 $a Ballet dancers $z Russia (Federation) $y 20th century $v Drama. 650 0 $a Feature films. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85047538 650 0 $a Foreign films. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh89005676 650 0 $a Biographical films. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85014151 655 7 $a Drama. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026297 700 1 $a Lotiï¸ a︡nu, EÌmilʹ, $d 1936-2003. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n80144379 700 1 $a Powell, Michael. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2006013086 700 1 $a Beliï¸ a︡eva, Galina. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n82093519 700 1 $a Fox, James, $d 1939- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n83066720 700 1 $a Shakurov, SergeiÌ. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n83157952 700 1 $a Larionov, Vsevolod, $d 1928- $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no99046310 700 1 $a Scorsese, Martin. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81050379 700 1 $a Kinnear, Roy, $d 1934-1988. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no98054284 710 2 $a Poseidon Productions. 710 2 $a Sovinfilʹm (Firm) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no00036661 710 2 $a Moskovskaiï¸ a︡ kinostudiiï¸ a︡ "Mosfilʹm." $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50071995 710 2 $a Kultur International Films. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n85026078 941 $a 1 945 $a vhs 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180119050613.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=A5606A26FCE711E799AF106097128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
