Summary:
A widower with two small children, former scholar Gregory Vance has given up his books for booze. Fired from his job as night watchman and with his inlaws threatening to take the youngsters away, Vance's luck finally changes when it's discovered he holds the vote that will decide a major election. Offered the position of education commissioner, Vance must think up a way to take the bribe and retain his honor without losing both his kids.
