Summary:
[Disc 1] Gone with the wind:Scarlett O'Hara is the daughter of a wealthy southern plantation owner. Ashley is the love of her life, but he is going to marry his cousin Melanie Hamilton. At a barbecue at Twelve Oaks, Scarlett meets Rhett Butler. After the Civil War sweeps away the genteel life to which she has been accustomed, Scarlett sets about to salvage her plantation home. -- [Disc 2] A farewell to arms: The story of the ill-fated love affair between an American soldier and a British nurse in Italy during World War I.
[Disc 3] Roman holiday: A princess rebels against her royal obligations and explores Rome on her own. She meets an American newspaperman who, seeking an exclusive story, pretends ignorance of her identity. But his plan falters as they fall in love. -- [Disc 4] Waterloo Bridge: Roy, a British officer, met Myra and fell in love during an air raid at the beginning of World War I. Heartbroken after Roy was reportedly killed in action, Myra turned to prostitution to make her way. The report, however, was false, and when Roy returns from a POW camp, Myra's shattered spirit may no longer hold any room for happiness.
[Disc 5] In New York, a gambler is challenged to take a cold female missionary to Havana, but they fall for each other, and the bet has a hidden motive to finance a crap game. -- [Disc 6] Casablanca: Easy to enter, but much harder to leave, especially if your name is on the Nazis' most-wanted list. Atop that list is a Czech Resistance leader Victor Laszlo, whose only hope is Rick Blaine, a cynical American who sticks his neck out for no one ... especially Victor's wife Ilsa, the ex-lover who broke his heart. So when Ilsa offers herself in exchange for Laszlo's safe transport out of the country, the bitter Rick must decide what's important - his own happiness or the countless lives that hang in the balance.
[Disc 7] War and peace: Tolstoy's extensive story about a turbulent period in Russian history - the Napoleonic wars. The personal stories of many characters, love affairs, and philosophies are woven throughout a massive and intricate tapestry. -- [Disc 8] From here to eternity: About life in the Army in the days prior to World War II, in Pearl Harbor. Shows the effect of Army discipline on an individualistic former boxing champion who defies the attempts of officers and men to break him when he refuses to fight on the company's boxing team.
[Disc 9] An English schoolteacher finds herself at odds with the King when she is the teacher at the royal court in the 1860s. -- [Disc 10] For whom the bell tolls: The story of Robert Jordan, an American demolition expert who lends his abilities to the anti-fascist freedom fighters of Spain. Assisting him is a band of warriors that includes the strong-willed Pilar, the dangerously undependable Pablo, and the lovely, innocent Maria (Bergman). As danger mounts, Robert and Maria develop a closeness that blossoms into one of the screen's greatest love stories.
