Summary:
Apt Pupil: After he discovers that an elderly neighbor was a notorious Nazi death camp officer, a teenager obsessed with the Holocaust blackmails the man into graphically recounting the horrors of his past crimes. The cat-and-mouse game between the two reaches a murderous intensity in this suspenseful adaptation of Stephen King's story from director Bryan Singer ("The Usual Suspects"). Ian McKellen, Brad Renfro, Bruce Davison, and David Schwimmer star.
Bag Of Bones: Stephen King's book becomes an eerie two-part telefilm as novelist/widower Mike Noonan (Pierce Brosnan) tries to purge the demons causing his writer's block by returning to the seaside Maine retreat he shared with his late wife (Annabeth Gish). While helping a local widow (Melissa George) sets his creative juices flowing, nightmares about a long-missing singer (Anika Noni Rose) draw him into a dark local mystery. With William Schallert, Caitlin Carmichael.
Christine: She's a 1958 Plymouth with jealousy and evil under her hood, but Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) isn't aware of his new ride's demonic qualities when he buys her, lovingly restores her, and names her "Christine." As the nerdish teen turns into a cocky braggart who scores with a popular girl (Alexandra Paul), Christine grows violently possessive of her new owner. Harry Dean Stanton, Roberts Blossom co-star in this John Carpenter shocker based on Stephen King's best-seller.
Secret Window: Based on a novella by Stephen King, this haunting thriller follows struggling writer Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) as he attempts to rebuild his life after a bitter divorce. His plans are quickly complicated by the arrival of John Shooter (John Turturro), a deranged would-be novelist claiming that the author plagiarized his work. As Rainey attempts to clear himself of the charges, his world begins rapidly spinning out of control. With Maria Bello, Timothy Hutton.
Sleepwalkers: In his first film written directly for the screen, Stephen King tells the story of small-town teenager Charles Brady (Brian Krause) and his beautiful mother (Alice Krige), who may appear perfectly normal but turn into catlike demons called "sleepwalkers" who need to extract the lifeforce from virgins to stay alive. After Charles falls for a school beauty (Mädchen Amick), can he resist his primitive desire to make her another victim? Diabolical and erotic thriller co-stars Lyman Ward, Cindy Pickett, Ron Perlman.
Stand By Me: Low-key sleeper hit, directed by Rob Reiner and based on the novella "The Body" by Stephen, follows four young boys (River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, Wil Wheaton) in 1959 Oregon who set out on a Labor Day camping trip in order to see a dead body one of them accidentally found. Along the way the friends take some hesitant steps on the road to maturity. Co-stars Kiefer Sutherland, Casey Siemaszko, John Cusack; Richard Dreyfuss is the narrator.
