Summary:
"Seventeen-year-old Wilsey Grant is on his way to Silver Grass, Wyoming, when he meets a foot traveler heading in the same direction. After their arrival in Silver Grass, Wilsey meets an indentured servant girl named Lorena Moor, and the fellow traveler turns up dead. Wilsey goes to work at the Emerald Peaks Ranch, where he hears of ranch hands terrorizing the settlers, and he witnesses the shooting of a homesteader boy. When Bent Blackburn, the owner of Emerald Peaks, learns that Deputy Sheriff Calvin Yenser arrested his ranch hand, Blackburn leads his gunmen into town, where they kidnap a girl and offer to trade her for the prisoner. The marauders shoot the deputy and spring the prisoner, and later return to town and set some buildings on fire. Two of the attackers are killed, but the main antagonists are still on the loose. Back on his feet, Yenser puts together a posse and goes to the ranch, where they have a series of gunfights. Wilsey metts again with Lorena, and tells her that when she has fulfilled her terms of service, he will help her look for her sister."-inner flap.
