Summary:
Competition between brothers for their father's love leads to a tragic end; family tensions erupt on a southern plantation between a terminally ill man, his alcoholic son, and the son's frustrated wife; a disturbed woman moves in with her sister and brutish brother-in-law in New Orleans; new in town, a troubled teen tries to prove himself to his peers and find the love he does not get from his family.
