Summary:
(Producer) Until recently there was little acknowledgement or understanding--by medical professionals, by the parents themselves, by family members, and by society at large--of the intensity, depth, and long-term impact of the grief that may be suffered by parents who experience a perinatal loss. They were left to cope alone, as best they could, with the death of a baby that the rest of the world did not quite perceive as an actual child--a death that no one else seemed to feel was an actual death. This piece allows these parents to express the anger, grief, disappointment, and isolation they feel, but their stories also demonstrate the ways in which they have been able to come to terms with their experiences and move on. The video will help others in this situation to confront their feelings, and will sensitize their relatives and friends, as well as the health professionals who work with them, to the reality and intensity of their loss.
