Summary:
When late rains ruin the fall crops, Miss Alice organizes a turkey shoot to bring food to the community of Cutter Gap without "charity," which the proud mountain people would never accept. A surprise visit from Christy's father turns tragic when he suffers a stroke, and Christy must decide whether to return home to care for him or stay among the people whom she has grown to love.
